Feb 9, 2010: The Madras High Court on Monday dismissed a public interest writ petition seeking to re-do the list of Padma awardees for this year.

In its order, the First Bench, comprising Chief Justice H L Gokhale and Justice K K Sasidharan, stated that for seeking such relief, a litigant was expected to approach authorities first and point out his grievances.

“For seeking any relief against the authorities of the state, a litigant is expected to approach the authorities first and point out whatever his grievances are, so that, if at all there is any substance therein, the authority concerned can look into it, and if there is any merit, can take action,” the First Bench observed.
