Mar 10, 2010: Tiruchirapalli District Press Club on Tuesday condemned the alleged police attack on Moorthy, photo journalist of The Hindu, during lathicharge at the agitators.

In a statement, Tiruchirapalli District Press Club secretary L Shawnawazkhan said residents of Ariyamangalam- Kattur on the Tiruchirapalli-Thanjavur National Highway had resorted to a road rook
agitation agaist an accident in which three school children were seriously injured.

A police team arrived at the spot and chased away the agitators. Later, they resorted to lathicharge, in which Moorthy, who went to the spot to cover the incident, was injured, he said. Shawnawazkhan urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to order a detailed enquiry over the incident and punish the erring police personnel.

Tamil Nadu Union of Journalists Trichirapalli District Unit president A J Bhaskaran also condemned the incident.
