CM goes down the ‘memorials’ lane
Mar 10, 2010: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi on Tuesday turned nostalgic when he recounted the establishment of memorials in the State during the DMK regime.

Recalling the events in the context of inauguration of the Assembly-Secretariat Complex on Saturday, Karunanidhi said in a statement that a host of memorials including the Silapathikara Art
Gallery in Poompuhar and the Kattabomman Memorial Fort in Panchalakurichi were established during the DMK regimes.
“In May 1973, the government organised a grand function to mark the declaration of Subramania Bharati’s ancestral house in Ettayapuram as a memorial and unveil the statue of eminent freedom fighter V O Chidambaram in Ottapidaram. In October 1999, a postal stamp was released in commemoration of Veerapandia Kattabomman,” he said.
