In an apparent reference to the DMK’s massive loss in the
last year’s Assembly polls, in which the AIADMK stormed back
to power with a huge majority, DMK president and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Thursday said, “We have  to face the consequences for the actions we did.”

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he said, “We have to find a solution for the mistakes committed by us. The present situation is that we have to punish ourselves for our actions.”

He said the Tamil Nadu government should hold talks with
agitating nurses who are protesting against a government order
and settle the issue amicably.

“Why are they being made to suffer like this? What have
they demanded? The issue can be sorted out by holding talks,”
he said at a function here referring to their recent detention
and release.

Scores of nurses serving in government hospitals and
medical colleges had been detained on Tuesday when they staged
an agitation protesting a recent government order to appoint
private nursing institution-educated counterparts in
government medical institutions.
